As a Brevard County retiree, you are eligible to continue receiving medical, dental, vision and life insurance benefits. Your spouse and/or dependents will be eligible for coverage as long as they were covered under your health insurance plan(s) on the date of your retirement. Your monthly insurance premiums for retiree benefits will vary from the amounts that you were previously paying through payroll deductions. Detailed information regarding the cost of coverage as a retiree is provided throughout the benefit guide.
Learn more about your 2027 retiree benefits by watching this Open Enrollment overview video.
As we simplify our benefit offerings, the Cigna EPO plan is being discontinued for 2027. All current Cigna EPO members will be automatically enrolled in the UMR EPO plan effective January 1, 2027, unless you select a new medical plan during Benefits Open Enrollment.
Symetra will be the new life insurance carrier effective January 1, 2027. This means lower premium rates for retirees. During this Open Enrollment period only, retirees currently enrolled in $5,000 of coverage may increase their coverage to $10,000 without answering medical questions.

Even if you don’t wear glasses, regular visits to your eye doctor are important to your overall health. That’s because a routine eye exam can often detect early signs of serious health conditions like diabetes. A group vision plan makes it easier to get the care you need and lower your costs.
All plans cover annual exams, lenses and frames, or contacts in lieu of glasses. Select from two vision insurance plans through Davis Vision.

Medicare pays for much, but not all, of the cost for covered health care services and supplies. A Medicare Surround, or Supplement, policy can help pay some of the remaining health care costs, such as, copays, coinsurance, and deductibles.
Medicare Supplement plans are age-banded. Once you are enrolled in one of Brevard County's Cigna Supplement plans, you will receive the issue-age rate until you disenroll or change plans. If you are considering switching to a MAPD plan this year, then you could potentially move into a different age band and pay a higher premium, should you choose to re-enroll in the future.
