One Kalakaua offers five medical plans to choose from. Two (2) plans are HMO plans provided through Kaiser. You also have the choice to pick between two (2) PPO plans and one (1) HMO plan through Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA).
If you choose to elect an HMO plan, you must designate a primary care physician. All care is coordinated through that provider, and you are only allowed to see that primary care provider (PCP). Any care that cannot be done by that provider will be referred and coordinated by your PCP.
Additional Resources:
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) are funded with pre-tax dollars, so when you incur eligible out-of-pocket health or dependent care expenses and you use the funds you allocated to your FSA, you are not paying any income taxes on that money. The overall result is that you pay less in taxes and have more take-home pay. You are eligible for a Health Care FSA and Dependent Care FSA even if you waive medical insurance from One Kalakaua.

Even with health insurance, a stay in the hospital can become costly quickly as out-of-pocket charges begin to add up. Hospital Indemnity Insurance through Lincoln Financial Group can reduce the financial and emotional stress of a hospital stay by providing a lump sum cash benefit directly to you that can be used however you need, whether that’s for coinsurance or childcare. With two levels of coverage, you can choose the coverage that best fits your needs!
Basic Life and AD&D
Basic Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance in the amount of $50,000 is available at no cost to you and is paid for by One Kalakaua. Your designated beneficiary will receive a benefit to help ease their financial burden if you die from a covered accident or illness. AD&D provides an additional benefit if you die or become dismembered due to a specifically covered accident.
Supplemental Life and AD&D
The Voluntary Term Life plan allows employees to elect additional life and dependent life coverage to supplement the Basic Life policy. This coverage is entirely optional and is paid for by the employee. Spouse and dependent child coverage is only available if the employee is insured for voluntary coverage.
Universal Life Insurance through Transamerica provides lifelong protection with flexible premiums. This plan protects your family with money that can be used any way they choose.
