Flexibility in Benefit Level, Additional Covered Conditions, and Health Screening Payments
Surviving a critical illness often results in unexpected expenses or even loss of income. Critical Illness Insurance can provide you with a lump sum benefit if you or a dependent experience one of the Critical Illnesses covered by this plan, helping to ensure the financial security of your household. If you are enrolled in Sharp’s current Critical Illness Insurance plan, you have the option to remain with your given coverage or to switch your enrollment to this new, enhanced version of the benefit. First-time enrollees will select from the new 2023 options.
Highlights of the enhanced plan include:

Enjoy Additional Benefits with your Existing Plan
The 2023 dental plan enhancements focus on the importance of preventive care to maintain your oral and overall health.
Third Cleaning: The plan will allow for a third cleaning for members with the following conditions: Heart Disease, Stroke, Diabetes, Maternity, Chronic Kidney Disease, Organ Transplant, Head and Neck Cancer Radiation, Hypertension, Thyroid Disease and Sjogren’s Syndrome.
Annual Maximum Incentive Provision: The plan will provide an annual maximum increase of $100 per year (for up to two years) if the member completes their preventive care (two exams and two cleanings).
Even with comprehensive medical insurance in place, you may experience out-of-pocket expenses associated with a hospital admission and treatment. With the new MetLife Hospital Indemnity Insurance Plan, you can supplement your existing medical coverage and receive financial support to pay for out-of-pocket costs such as co-payments, non-covered services, and miscellaneous incidentals that might occur with a hospital stay.
Benefits are payable as a lump-sum directly to the employee to use as necessary
Accidents can result in both a physical and a financial cost. Sharp’s new Group Accident Insurance Plan can provide a benefit if you experience one of many different accidents including but not limited to fractures, dislocations, burns, or lacerations. This new benefit is available in addition to Sharp’s existing Group AD&D and Personal Accident Insurance Plans.

The Group Legal Plan can provide you with access to a network of attorneys servicing a broad range of valuable personal legal needs for you and your dependents. Depending on your stage in life, you may be planning for your financial future, purchasing a home, building a family, or caring for aging parents. Having legal representation in your corner can give you an added measure of security when you need it most. With the new, upgraded legal plan option known as Plus Parents, your parents can receive relevant estate planning, family and elder-care legal services as an additional benefit to your plan. You may find these services especially valuable if you are your parent’s immediate caregiver.
Along with the new Plus Parents option, the existing legal plan benefit will now include coverage for contested guardianship and conservatorship, secondary residence, reproductive assistance legal services (4 hours) and ID theft resolution services. The cost of the Basic/Low plan will reduce from $10.50 per pay period to $10.04. Existing enrollees do not need to re-enroll in order to continue coverage with the Low Plan, but will need to select the High (Plus Parents) option if this new level is desired for 2023. Legal Plan benefit highlights include:

Sharp HealthCare is pleased to provide you with the opportunity to participate in two Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs):
These accounts do not provide you with any additional medical, dental or vision coverage, they simply provide you with a means of paying for certain health and dependent day care expenses with pre-tax dollars. The advantage of paying expenses on a pre-tax basis is that you will have more spendable income and you pay less in taxes, so you save money.

Although we do not like to think about it, should death occur, the survivors left behind could face serious financial hardship. You or your family might need an alternative source of income to pay off bills and meet ongoing financial requirements. Should you or a member of your family die – your legal spouse/certified domestic partner or child, for example – the loss can cause unexpected expenses. This is the purpose of life insurance, to provide funds for those left behind.
Basic Life and AD&D Insurance
Basic Life and AD&D Insurance is provided at no cost. You may also elect Supplemental Life and Supplemental Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance. Refer to your 2021 Benefit Guide for information on your Basic Life and AD&D Insurance options.
Optional Life and AD&D Insurance
Optional Life and AD&D insurance is available for you to purchase. You may also purchase optional life insurance for your spouse and eligible dependents if you purchase supplemental life insurance on yourself.
During this enrollment period only, you can enroll without answering medical questions!
Refer to your 2021 Benefit Guide for more information.
