Vision ▼

Administered by United Health Care

Even if you don’t wear glasses, regular visits to your eye doctor are important to your overall health. That’s because a routine eye exam can often detect early signs of serious health conditions like diabetes.  A group vision plan makes it easier to get the care you need and lower your costs.

Vision insurance plans can help you better manage your vision care costs by giving you the benefits you need to stay on top of your eye health. With a vision plan you can:

  • Lower your out-of-pocket costs for eye care

  • Out-of-network providers are also covered, but without discounts

  •  Pick the prescription eyewear you prefer

  •  Coverage for routine eye exams on day one of your plan

Flexible Spending Account (FSA) ▼

Administered by Optum Financial

The Flexible Spending Account allows employees to take advantage of the provisions in Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code. This Code section provides that payroll deductions for health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, and child care will be taken on a before-tax
basis. This plan must always comply with the latest requirements of the IRS code and therefore changes may occur without notice.

An FSA has flexible in its name for a reason. It helps you maximize your budget, giving you the ability to use pretax dollars to pay for eligible expenses for you and your family.

Types of FSAs:

  • Health care FSA A health care FSA covers qualified health care expenses for you and your family. Eligible expenses can include medical, dental, vision, hearing and prescription expenses, plus copays, coinsurance and certain over-the-counter (OTC) items.
  • Dependent care FSA Use a dependent care FSA to pay for the care of loved ones while you work, including childcare or care for dependent adults. Cover services like childcare, preschool, after-school care and senior care.
  • Limited purpose FSA Pay for dental and vision expenses with this great companion to a health savings account (HSA).

Check out these highlights:

  • Access your dollars on day one
Your FSA funds are available as soon as your plan year begins, even before you contribute.
  • Spend tax-advantaged money
The dollars you put into your account are pretax, so every time you use those dollars to pay for eligible expenses, you save money

Use it or you (might) lose it
FSAs can differ by employer. FSAs generally do not allow you to use your funds after a specified date. Your employer may offer grace periods that extend the time you may use your account, and some offer rollovers of unused funds. Check your plan documents to see what your FSA allows.

How is an FSA different from an HSA?
Unlike with an HSA, leftover dollars in an FSA typically don’t roll over to the next plan year and you’ll likely have a deadline to spend your dollars. An FSA also doesn’t allow you to invest your contributions. Both an FSA and HSA allow you to use your Optum Payment Card to pay for eligible expenses.

Check your plan documents to see what your FSA allows.

Health Savings Account (HSA) ▼

Administered by Optum Financial

A health savings account (HSA) allows you to save money for qualified medical expenses that you’re expecting, such as contact lenses or monthly prescriptions, as well as unexpected ones — this year and for any future needs. It’s a win-win for saving on health costs today, tomorrow and through retirement.

Call dibs on your money
It’s all yours until you spend it — even deposits made by others, like an employer or family member. You keep it, even if you change jobs, switch health plans or retire.

Save, earn and spend income tax-free
You generally won’t pay income taxes on your HSA funds. HSAs put more money in your pocket with income tax-free:
  • Contributions to your account (up to the annual limit)
  • Interest and potential investment earnings
  • Withdrawals used for qualified medical expenses
